This is a brand new class and recently developed technique by Grace. This technique is an offshoot of Grace’s extremely popular and successful “Heat-Set” technique. The “Reverse” Applique uses the same product and a similar application of the product as the “Heat-Set”. The difference is that instead of applying fabric shapes on top of the background fabric, in “Reverse” you will cut into the background to “discover” the shapes below!
This “Reverse” technique as developed by Grace, is extremely easy and foolproof. It lends itself to stained glass/mosaic textile effects and graphic type design interpreted in fabric.
This is your opportunity to learn from the inventor, develop, and expert of both the “Heat-Set” and the new “Reverse” Applique.
We will begin by taking a small, simple and quick project from start to finish first. Grace will provide all the fabrics for this started project. This way you will learn the technique and be totally ready to immerse yourself in the more complex projects.
For a 1-Day workshop, we will be working on the Rose or the Owl, in order to learn the technique and complete this simple wall hanging. For those who desire a challenge or, for a 2-Day class the Butterfly is also an option. Please email Grace to ensure that you get the correct fabric requirements.

Whether you are a traditional or a contemporary quilter, you will find that the Trapunto quilting technique will provide you with an additional dimension for your quilts.
This class will show you how to use your sewing machine to make beautiful Trapunto designs.
The technique will easily allow you to “raise elements of the quilting design” to give a relief effect and increase the textural aspects of your quilt. It can be used in traditional blocks or in contemporary landspaces. Examples of both will be demonstrated.

This is a fun class that is easier than you would ever guess. With your sewing machine darning foot, we will embroider designs that you can later attach onto a quilt, vest or jacket. We will also learn how to do free-motion lettering and drawing with your machine.
You might even use this technique to create greeting cards, pillows, and many other things. This thread-play technique requires minimum effort and practice. You can execute it even if you do not feel comfortable with free motion quilting.

All of these classes can be combined to create multiple-day workshops/seminars so that, for example, we can start by learning the importance of Value and Color in Quilts and then, spend the next days(s) creating one of the offered patterns or even Designing your Own quilt from a photo.
Classes can be customized to the participants requirements and can be 2-5 Days in length.
In this longer journey together we will begin by focusing on and understanding Value. Students will see Value in a new way. They will create a “Fabric Gray Scale” with fabrics provided, and will be introduced to Grace’s “Periodic Table of Value in Color”. These are must have tools for all art quilters.
Secondly, we will begin with an introduction to the techniques and methods I have found successful in creating my art quilts. Students will learn a very simple, foolproof and easy machine applique technique – the “Heat-Set” applique technique. This method or doing applique is brand new, never taught or introduced before. You will love it! For all you who like fusible products, like Steam-a-Seam 2 or Wonder Under, or glues, you will love this new method. All of you that use lots of pins and nylon thread stitching to create your quilt top, you will never return to that process. A second benefit of the “Heat-Set” technique is that you will never have any fraying again. Finally no more fuzzies in your quilts.
In this class you will also learn how to create an Art Quilt in sections and will be introduced to a special lightweight and flexible stabilizer, provided by the teacher, on which the applique is built.
Finally, to make this a “Start to Finish” experience, students will be given, with guidance, the opportunity to create an art quilt using images they will bring. You will learn how to look at your original photo, what to choose from it and how to translate it into a Master Pattern and Templates. Using fabrics, you will then create a Quilt Top that reflects your inspiration.
Optionally, if you prefer, you can execute one of the instructor patterns, rather then your own photo. There will be many patterns available. Contact the teacher so that she can bring your favorite pattern.
